Tips about Irish Church Records --Church of Ireland (Episcopalian) -- about half of them are extant as many were destroyed in the 1922 fire; many Northern Ireland parishes never sent theirs in. Most records are in local custody. See "Crockford's Clerical Directory" for addresses. Some of these records or transcripts can be found at the Public Record Offices, Four Courts, Dublin, Eire and at Law Courts Building, May Street, Belfast, Northern Ireland. --Roman Catholic. Date from about 1750, but most start about 1830; many are in Latin. Originals are in local custody but microfilm copies, except those from Dublin Diocese are on film at the National Library of Ireland, Kildare Street, Dublin, Eire. The Family History Library has or is obtaining copies of these records. --Presbyterian. Generally begin about 1800 and all are extant. Originals mostly in local custody with some of the very early ones at the Presbyterian Historical Society, Church House, Fisherwick Place, Belfast, Northern Ireland. Addresses of ministers may be obtained from this organization. Some microfilm copies are at the Public Record Office in Belfast and the Family History Library has some printed copies. --Society of Friends (Quakers). Date from ca 1670. Records and indexes from Eire are at Friends House Library, 6 Eustace St., Dublin. Records and indexes for Northern Ireland are at Friends' Meeting House, Railway Street, Lisburn. The Family History Library has many transcript copies of the originals, arranged in alphabetical order. --Methodist (Wesleyan). Records exist after 1878, before that time, Methodists were recorded mostly in Church of Ireland or Presbyterian registers. Records after 1878 are in local custody. --Other Denominations. Baptists, Congregationalists, etc. Many of these groups came to Ireland about 1640 as soldiers with Cromwell. Records are generally in local custody.
